Meet K Wilson, who joins the BOT VFX family as the Head of HR and Administration. Hailing from a town near Tirunelveli, he’s probably the only South Indian we know who doesn’t rely on filter coffee to get through the day! With an impressive 25 years of experience, Wilson is a seasoned professional in the field of Human Resources. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and process-driven approach, Wilson is quite a perfectionist. He believes in the power of hard work and appreciates it whenever he sees it. All this while maintaining a harmonious equilibrium between both life and work.

At work, Wilson is dedicated to building interpersonal connections and always goes out of his way to help others. He strongly believes that employee happiness should always come first and strives to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Wilson’s favourite quote, by Alfred Tennyson, is “Men may come, men may go, but we go on forever.” It serves as a constant reminder that as the dynamic landscape of an organisation, individuals join and depart, each contributing with their unique strengths and experiences. However, the role that we play as HR is important ensuring the seamless flow of talent and continuity of the company’s operations.

Outside of work, Wilson enjoys travelling, driving, gardening, and staying fit. He makes sure to complete 10,000 steps a day, no matter what. What’s his weakness you ask? Biryani. BOT VFX’s Mastery Unleashed: Extraction 2’s Director and Team Honored for Groundbreaking Work

In the fast-paced world of action cinema, visual effects play a pivotal role in elevating the audience’s experience. Much-awaited Extraction 2 – starring Chris Hemsworth is no exception to this and we eagerly count down its release on 16th June 2023 on Netflix. Collaborating once again with the renowned directors Anthony and Joe Russo was constant source of inspiration for the bot artists. A team of more than 30 talented artisans, worked tirelessly on this project. With careful attention to detail, the Bot team led by Supervisor John Britto supported by our Prep Supervisor Karpagaraja contributed to over 200 shots by adding some seamless invisible effects to the film. A few of our highlights on our work involves deftly removing safety wires, rigs, and many other unwanted elements. The Bots also delicately stabilized and retimed footage to ensure a more immersive experience for the audience.

One of the most gratifying moments during this project was the VFX Appreciation Call, where we were invited by the Russo Brothers, and the Visual Effects Production team along with the Netflix team in Los Angeles. Being recognized for our contributions to Extraction 2 was an absolute honor. The call was spearheaded by the esteemed filmmaker Joe Russo and their appreciation was a sheer testament to the dedicated efforts and craftsmanship that went into every frame.

This accolade is another feather to the cap in BOT VFX’s journey and readiness to take on even more ambitious projects in the future. We are grateful for all the opportunities that provide us with a platform to showcase our artistry skills at a global scale.

BOT brings in Anoop AK as CIO to Spearhead Technological Advancements

Responding to the ever growing technological complexity of its operation, BOT levels up the tech game by adding a new player to its team – Anoop A.K. who joins BOT as its CIO.  Anoop is a VFX industry stalwart who has worked with renowned companies like Rhythm and Hues, Dreamworks and UTV.  Anoop’s deep understanding of the technology underpinning the visual effects and animation world comes from having played various technical roles from TD to pipeline head to head of technology, spanning both the hardware and software sides of the spectrum.

“He had some truly proud moments – like contributing to Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda 3, Life of Pi and many other notable mentions! What sets Anoop apart is his unwavering curiosity for emerging trends and technologies. He’s always up for a challenge and is constantly learning from every experience”

When he is not busy adding some movie magic to the latest blockbuster, he can be found gaming like a pro (with a special love for action-adventure games like “Ghost of Tsushima” and VR RPG games) reading non-fiction books (knowledge is power, after all), and keeping himself in top shape. His all-time favorite movie scene comes from The Matrix, where Neo is given the choice of taking the red pill or the blue pill. We’re just glad he took the red pill and joined the BOT VFX team! With his extensive experience working with prestigious companies like Rhythm and Hues & Dreamworks, Anoop is the perfect person to lead BOT VFX to new heights.

    BOT To Open Pune Office

In January 2022, BOT VFX will officially open an office in Pune, India, recognizing the great talent pool of visual effects artists native to the city.  BOT already has a pool of artists based in Pune who have been working remotely for the last 10 months.  The new office will accommodate these existing employees and new joinees as BOT begins its recruitment efforts in Pune.  “Pune is a vibrant city with great infrastructure, and many trained artists are ready to join the BOT family, so expanding our footprint there seemed to be a very natural step for us,” notes Sreyans Bardia, BOT’s Co-founder and MD of the India Operations.  “This is yet another confirmation that we are truly a global company, with not only global clients, but talent across many cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, and now Pune.”

While some companies rely heavily on artists working from home in other cities, BOT has held the belief that there are overwhelming advantages of having office space to have meaningful collaboration, reliable infrastructure and adherence to the security expectations of our clients.  “Operating during the pandemic has reminded us of two things about the importance of having a physical office: it is essential to the collaborative nature of the visual effects work we do, and it is essential for people to have a sense of belonging to an organization,” observes Hitesh Shah, Founder and CEO.  “Our culture has always been a key part of our DNA.” (#More2LifeAtBOT)

Adding perspective on the role of technology, Sukumar Sreenivas, BOT’s Head of Strategy and Growth, notes that “the current technology has simplified what used to be complex operational factors in integrating the workflows of multiple office locations.  Now we can have both: office footprint in multiple geographies and a tightly knit pipeline.”

BOT is always looking for promising VFX talent across the country and the globe. If you want to be a part of a vibrant, nurturing work culture, get in touch with us at https://www.botvfx.com/jobs/

BOT’s Wild Subway Ride with ‘Dave’

BOT took a wild ride on a Korean subway for one of the Season 2 episodes of Dave on FX Network.

The BOT team created a CG subway station and tunnel, inspired by reference photos from South Korea, and integrated it with the live action footage of Dave and his buddies. Transforming the stationary greenscreen subway into a dynamic vehicle pulling in and out of the train station was a skill-stretching sequence.

And then there was another unique challenge with this sequence:  what seemed like simple greenscreen key pulls had a lot of shiny chrome reflections in the physical train used while filming, so of course our seasoned roto team rode to the rescue. Additionally, BOT worked its usual VFX magic for a few other episodes of this show with managing bodily function failures, screen swaps, splits, rig removal, and cleanup.

“Dave is a really funny show with clever writing and we are glad to be a part of it. It was a lot of fun to be involved with a comedy and help get bigger laughs,” grinned VFX Supervisor Sean Pollack. “Looking forward to pushing the boundaries further next season!”
